Nelly Furtado – “Big Hoops (Bigger The Better)”ģ7. & Nicky Minaj – “Give Me All Your Luvin'”ģ5. Kimbra – “Somebody That I Used To Know”Ģ2. Demi Lovato – “Give Your Heart A Break”ġ5. Chris Brown & Lil Wayne – “I Can Only Imagine”ġ1. So, without any further adieu, I present to you Pop Danthology 2012:Ĥ. Let’s put all of that aside for 8-minutes, and remember the good times of 2012. We all have our personal strifes and everyday stresses, the economy is still in a downward spiral, and the world has steadily become more divided, unstable, and dangerous over the past year. Like for so many others, music has been my ecstasy to escape the modern grind, but to me this 2012 medley just expresses so much more in such a compact way. This has been a tough year for many. I have been following Kim’s work over the years – his 20 “Pop Danthology” mashups are among some of my earbud’s most played soundtracks. You do not have to like every song in Kim’s 2012 medley, but his mashup of beats is bound to induce a sense of optimism and nostalgia into you. This is Kim’s third annual mashup of a year in hit pop songs. I can confidently say that Kim is very well on his way in becoming a world-class DJ. And oh, did I mention, Vancouver represent? It is a great sample size of what the popular opinion is for this mashup. In addition, as I write this, more than 103,000 “likes” have been given for the video (conversely, there have been only 2,000 dislikes, which gives the video an excellent like-dislike ratio). The video on YouTube is attaining several comments every minute, and virtually all are praising his work. It is certainly no quick and easy task, and for any daring the challenge it would require quite a bit of talent and patience as “making a mash-up is like completing a huge puzzle,” and not every piece goes together. On his blog, Daniel Kim describes the 3-month process to develop Pop Danthology 2012. Going through a year’s worth of pop songs and synthesizing it into a seamless melody is no easy task. “Pop Danthology 2012” has captured international media attention, and garnered over 7-million hits and 18,000 comments on YouTube since it was published on December 2nd. This includes the year in music, and Vancouver’s Daniel Kim has managed to mash together 55 of the year’s hit pop songs into a 8-minute seamless dance beat video. With 2012 coming to an end, people and blogs are beginning to look back at the very worst and very best of the year.
